Preparing for 2012 Tour Divide

Not too far away now and I am definitely getting excited!  Excited by the fact that I am at last feeling a lot better - excited by the prospect of making a good start on the Tour Divide this time!!       I am in the process of putting together a new bike which I think will be perfectly suited to Tour Divide - something that people before have used with a few modifications of course - more about that later in a future blog!   It's been rather like christmas as all the various components have been arriving!   Also am getting together the bags and other equipment I will be taking with me  and looking at the route and planning how to tackle it.  Of course I have also been training - not only riding in the mountains but also some sleep deprivation training - which is very hard - find myself very tired/falling asleep!!  Quite funny really!  But all good training!!   Really can't wait to start!   Can't wait to get back to Canada and meet up with Tori again - Tour D'Afrique friend who completed the Tour Divide last year - she doesn't plan to repeat it this year but is helping me get to the start line!  She has started up her own bike bag company so I will be testing some of her prototypes!!  I will be blogging about that later!!
No snow on the passes this year which means no detours and that we will be able to race the original Great Divide route - and this means I will be able to compare my Finish time with Matthew Lee's record!  Should be fun - can't wait!
Did I say I was excited to be putting my bike together??   The frame is sitting in my living room,  the wheels are on their way, the cranks and suspension fork are with the bike shop!!  Hopefully by next weekend it should be ready to take out on a test ride!!   Other than that I am looking in pretty good shape as far as organisation goes ..................   more later!!

Get Up and Ride National Challenge

Get Up and Ride

This challenge is now well underway - having started May 1, but it's not too late for you to join in.  Just follow the link above to find out more!

I have been cycling the 27 miles (uphill in Denver) to and from work most days and trying to add a few training miles to that distance as well!!

Am now firmly settled in Denver for a while, having bought a house here (which needs a little attention).  However that wont be stopping me from travelling to places worldwide as I continue to participate in various endurance events!!

The last 12 months have been difficult for me as I am not used to being less than healthy and below peak fitness.  However if nothing else it has given me a greater appreciation of life for my sister and all those who suffer from Lupus and similar diseases and also made me even more determined to get back on the road/track/mountain!!

More news later about this year's Tour Divide and Paul's 100 Mile Challenge!!
